Archaeological Field Technician
Position Overview
True North is seeking applicants for the position of Archaeological Field Technician to join our Ottawa Team for the 2024 Field Season on a fixed term contract basis. If you’re motivated and looking to grow as an experienced consulting archaeologist, True North is the place for you.

Fieldwork will be primarily located in the Ottawa area and surrounding region. The weekly schedule will generally run Monday to Friday with the potential for some weekend work. Transportation to site daily can be arranged or mileage reimbursed.
Job Responsibilities
As an Archaeological Field Technician working for True North you will:

Complete Stage 2 test pitting/pedestrian survey through to Stage 4 hand excavation and feature recording

Work collaboratively with the Indigenous Community Members, Field Directors and other team members

Undertake archaeological assessments in a variety of environments and terrains, and in all weather conditions

Provide support to other team members both in the field and office

Have a “safety first” attitude at all times

Perform other duties as needed.
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

Working knowledge of Ontario material culture and history

Ability to work as a member of the field team

Ability and willingness to undertake physically demanding work in all types of environments

Willingness to travel for out-of-town jobs, when required
-
Dedication to health and safety and knowledge of employee's requirements and responsibilities within the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
-
Valid Ontario driver's license and access to reliable transportation
-
Perform other duties as needed.
