Project Archaeologist
Position Overview
True North is seeking applicants for the position of Project Archaeologist to join our Ottawa Team on a full time basis. If you’re motivated and looking to grow as an experienced consulting archaeologist, True North is the place for you. This opportunity is a full-time position with benefits.

As a Project Archaeologist with True North, you will be responsible for all aspects of a project life-cycle, with a focus on leading field crews during the field season. Fieldwork will be situated throughout Ontario, with a primary focus in the Ottawa area and surrounding region. The weekly schedule will generally run Monday to Friday with the potential for some weekend work.
Job Responsibilities
As an Project Archaeologist working for True North you will:

Complete field and office requirements for Stage 1 through to Stage 4 projects to MCM Standards with guidance from Senior TNAS staff

Supervise, provide training and mentorship to archaeological field team members

Conduct archaeological assessments in a variety of work environments in all weather conditions

Work collaboratively with the Indigenous Community Members, Field Directors and other team members

Lead and contribute to work plans and costing for project opportunities

Complete daily health and safety tailgate meetings and have a safety-first attitude at all times

Perform other duties as required, including artifact analysis, reporting and research
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

Valid Professional or Research license to conduct archaeological fieldwork granted by the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism

Excellent working knowledge of the MCM's Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists
-
Ability to work independently with guidance from senior TNAS staff
-
Proven experience working in Ontario on a variety of site types, including rural, urban and multicomponent
-
Demonstrated dedication to meaningful relationships with Indigenous Communities
-
Knowledge of southern and northern Ontario cultural history and material culture is an asset
-
Good written and verbal communication skills

Strong organizational skills
-
Dedication to health and safety and knowledge of employee's requirements and responsibilities within the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
-
Valid Ontario driver's license and access to reliable transportation
-
First Aid/CPR certification
-
Have a "safety first" attitude at all times
